Simple Tips for Amazing Winter Skin

Is your skin dull, tight, or flaking? Do you have the dreaded “winter itch”? There is help to combat winter’s dry chaffing air. Our esthetician Julie explains the do’s and don’ts to help you combat winter dry skin and to help you have luminous    radiant skin instead.

drinking-water-benefitsDo hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Your skin is the largest organ of your body and your cells are made up predominantly of water. Staying hydrated in the winter is just as important as it is in the summer.

Do add moisture back into the air with a home humidifier.  Humidifiers add just enough moisture to combat the dry heat you are pumping though your house to stay warm and a humidifier will not cool the air, it traps the heat and helps you retain your skin’s natural moisture and oils and a humidifier will keep your nasal passages moisturized and soothed.

washing faceDo cleanse your skin with moisturizing cleaners. Use a hydrating cleanser to prevent further drying and to help your skin maintain    it’s natural oils. Vital C Hydrating Facial Cleanser is packed full of
anti-oxidants and vitamin C to gently cleanse your face and repair damaged skin.

Do moisturize in the morning with a moisturizer that has an SPF. People often forget about SPF in the winter, but the sun is still
delivering UVA rays that can damage your skin. Prevention+ Daily Hydrating Moisturizer comes in many varieties from matte oil free to slightly tinted to give your skin a slight glow.

Do moisturize before going to bed with a repairing hydrating moisturizer. Vital C Hydrating Repair Crème repairs damaged cells as you sleep and is ideal for dry damaged skin.

Hot-Coffee-Don’t overdue caffeinated drinks.  Many people tend to drink more coffee, cocoa and tea in the colder months. The problem is that these drinks contain caffeine which is a diuretic and does not hydrate the skin. If you want those hot drinks, try a caffeine free variety.

Don’t take hot showers.  Remember your skin has a thin layer of oils to keep your skin moisturized and healthy. Hot water breaks down the oil barrier and dries out your skin. So even though it feels amazing, try not to over due them.

Don’t go to bed with your makeup on. Always cleanse your skin before bed to allow your skin time to breath and regenerate.
