Fashion Colors: The Joys and Sorrows

Fashion colors are fun; they’re bright and bold or can be subtle and pastel. Fashion colors are also high maintenance. The most obvious maintenance is the constant combating against fading. Your fashion color will fade, there’s nothing you can do about that. They are semi-permanent colors that aren’t really designed to last the long haul. You can, however, take steps to keep the fading less severe, prolonging your bright new fashion color.

lightened First and foremost, you need healthy hair. Damaged hair will not hold color the same way that healthy hair will. While lightening your hair may seem counterintuitive to this step, it may be necessary to achieve your desired color. That’s why you need to go to a professional salon to lighten your hair. Most professional hair salons use top quality hair products and, in the case of our salon, use additives in all their lightening processes to prevent any damage that may occur. Even if this is all you do at the salon it’s worth the money.
Second, you need a high-quality hair color. All hair color is not created equally. Ever color your hair and have it come out weird and splotchy? That happens because there is not enough pigment in that color to achieve full coverage. Here at Modern Concepts we have a few options to achieve the color of your dreams. We highly recommend Eufora’s Artisan Color for optimal coverage and longevity. The Artisan colors are highly pigmented and can be mixed together to achieve virtually any color. While not commercially available, Eufora is the best option we can offer our guest. If you’re looking for an at-home solution the market is flooded with hair coloring products, so be sure to read reviews. I personally recommend Arctic Fox, which is vegan and cruelty free. first application height=

Heat opens up the hair’s cuticle allowing the pigments to literally fall out. That’s not to say you have to take an ice-cold shower, just rinse your hair in as cold of water as you can stand. Then wrap it up under a shower cap for the rest of your shower. Heat styling should also be avoided, but if you absolutely must, be sure to use a thermal heat protector on your hair. Styling tools with temperature control would be ideal. Use the lowest heat setting they have; it will take longer to style your hair, but these are the sacrifices we make for fashion!

Lastly, and you should already know this, use a high-quality shampoo and conditioner. Avoid anything with sulfates, parabens, and alcohols. This includes styling products. Harsh chemicals in hair products can strip your color out faster. It’s a good idea to mix your hair color into your conditioner because your shampoo will inevitably take out some of the pigments.

On a final note, if you’re serious about your fashion color you should be getting it colored every three to four weeks. Fashion colors are semi-permanent, they’re just not designed to last long. On the plus side of that , you can change colors rather easily.
